Philosophy

What you can expect.

I enjoy story-work which involves me learning more about who you are, and everything that makes you, well you. During your first visit, you can expect that like a story, I want you to tell me yours, the parts you’re ready to share. I may also ask you to write it out beforehand so that we can go through it together. I’m also all about practical solutions: what works for you, what doesn’t work for you. I enjoy processing your past but I also want to know how your past affects you today. As a therapist, I operate through the lens that we are always being influenced by our past: events, things that were told about us, things we told ourselves, significant memories and moments, all affect who we are today. So we must go back before we go forward.

You are driving the car. I’m in the passenger seat supporting you along the way. Together, we will take time to slow down your story, working through and reflecting on significant moments in your life.  My hope for you is that your story, in time, will be put together with new meaning, parts will be redeemed with a new sense of purpose, and that you will experience a new type of compassion—for others and for yourself.

But new meaning and new revelations oftentimes requires sitting in the pain. It’s in the uncomfortable, but delicate spaces where healing takes place. Therapy is not a race, but it is rather a resurfacing, restructuring, and renewing a sense of who you are, and who you were created to be.  It’s far less about the destination and more about what is being revealed moment by moment, so that what is revealed can be healed. I never want you to rush over something that we want to last. It’s a process, not a destination.

Lastly, I will always extend hope to you freely. This work isn’t always easy, and you may not see progress overnight. But I will always encourage you, and hold hope for you, your story, and your healing. In the words of my own therapist, “if you don’t have any hope, you can always borrow some of mine.”

Structure

Therapy fees and treatment are based on a 50-minute clinical hour instead of a 60-minute clock hour so that the therapist may review notes and assessments on your behalf.

  • In Person - my office is located at 1657 Windrow Dr, Suite 4 Bozeman MT 59714

  • Virtual Session for Montana Residents- all virtual sessions are held in a confidential space on a secure network. I also recommend that you find a space where you are both comfortable and can share freely as well.

  • Walk & Talk- weather depending, you have the option to move your session outdoors along the trails near my office space.

**Scholarships for reduced rates are available depending on space and availability.

I am an out-of-network provider, however, I can provide you with a detailed invoice for treatment that can be provided to your insurance company if they provide out-of-network reimbursement.

Adolescents

Parents! It is so important that I build rapport with your teen. Building rapport means I need to be able to gain their trust. For this reason, I try to maintain a no secrets policy in which anything you tell me, I highly encourage you to have already discussed your child prior. I understand that you have a different perspective of your child than I have, and I do gladly receive any input, I just ask that you keep this information open between us.

In return, I have to keep confidential what your child says during therapy, however, and with your teens permission, if necessary I will report back to you major themes, progress, etc. I will also always report any immediate danger, or concern if it so arises. Please know that I always see us and value us together as a team in your teens health and development.
